Design Technology and creativity

Since AS level, I have improved on my use of digital technology massively in each department and how I use it. In AS level I used programmes such as Photoshop and Indesign to be able to carry out all of my work. These programmes allowed me to develop skills and be able to edit my work efficiently and to the highest standard which I needed it to be.

Photoshop was one of the main programmes as I was able to edit my images for my magazine. Tools I used on this were air brush, crop tool, different effects on images and the cutting tool. I found it was most important for me to be able to learn about what I am doing and how to carry it out more successfully, therefore, to learn more about the programme, I used tutorials. Not only did I use tutorials for Photoshop, but I also used it for Indesign. As I was a new student to media, I had to learn about how to use the programme and how the different settings and features of the programme can help me when making my magazine.

From using the tutorials, I got a much better understanding of how I could use the programmes features and different tools efficiently in order to make my magazine a success. In comparison to AS, in A2, we used premiere to complete our music videos.

Premiere is a lot different to the programmes we used before as it is for film/video based work. There are different types of editing which do not revolve around the images you might use in other work; it is about the editing of transitions and the actual clips of your music video. As I had never used this programme before, I wanted to make sure that I knew exactly what I needed to use and how I could use them to make sure that I have a good results and are the best which I could of made them. Again, such like at AS level, I used tutorials to be able to learn about how I could use certain tools such as the marker tool. For me, this tool has been essential for making my video as I needed to have my singing exactly on time with the music. The only way which I could have done this is to use the marker tool to get it exactly on point of where to stop and start the music. I believe that this has made my work a lot more successful as having used this tool, my song is in time with the singing, making it look more professional.

Overall, my development has been massive. As a student who had never used any of the media applications which I have now gotten used to over the two years, I have developed my understanding and knowledge. From my development, I have been able to learn and move on from how I used to use these tools and understand further on how it can benefit me and my work.
